Statement of Solidarity in Creative Work

We all have a role to play in creating a more equitable, sustainable theatre ecosphere. I acknowledge my own privilege in this industry and pledge to continue the work of dismantling oppressive systems and amplifying voices that have been historically silenced. As a teacher, I believe this work is vital to the development of future generations of theatre workers, and I am also conscious of this need in my professional work. As a lighting designer, I strive to create the best product possible within a given set of resources and am respectful of everyone else’s needs and ideas – from the stage manager to the followspot operator. Kindness is the cornerstone of my work in collaboration, and I approach it with care and always from a place of curiosity. Lighting Design requires this sensitivity, as I am responsible for sculpting different body shapes, sizes and skin tones as they relate to the environment. I am mindful of this responsibility and strive to create compelling compositions that serve the story we tell together.
